PriceTaglet vs. SoluM: Which Electronic Shelf Label System Fits a Coin Store?

Comparing PriceTaglet and SoluM Newton ESLs for coin and bullion stores: gateway pricing, software subscriptions, setup and live spot price support.

SoluM is one of the biggest names in electronic shelf labels. Its Newton tags hang in grocery chains and big-box stores around the world. PriceTaglet is a much smaller company built for a much narrower job: keeping prices accurate in stores whose prices follow the gold, silver and platinum markets.

If you run a coin shop, bullion counter or pawn shop jewelry case, here's how the two compare.

Pricing below comes from public listings in October 2026 and can change. Confirm current prices with each vendor or reseller.

Who SoluM is

According to SoluM's company page, SoluM was spun off from Samsung Electro-Mechanics in 2015. Its North American partner portal lists SOLUM America Inc. in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, and a wide hardware lineup: Newton Pro, Newton Core Plus, Newton Full Color, freezer and industrial models, and two gateways, according to the SoluM store.

That breadth is a real strength. If you need a 32-inch display or a label that survives a freezer, SoluM has one.

Gateway and tag pricing

SoluM doesn't publish prices on its own site. The Newton Gateway page directs buyers to sales for an estimate. U.S. reseller WAND Digital does list prices:

SoluM item (via WAND Digital) Listed price
Smart Label Gateway (Newton Gen5) $359.77 (MSRP $592.20)
Gateway power adapter $18.00
2.9" Newton Smart Label PRO (4-color) $13.60
4.2" Newton Smart Label PRO (4-color) $30.34
7.5" Newton Smart Label PRO (4-color) $71.52
AIMS Platform label service, annual $630 to $3,150

The gateway is built for scale. SoluM says a single Newton Gateway covers about 30 meters, supports up to 50,000 labels, and can update 3,000 tags in about five minutes. It connects over Ethernet and runs only on 2.4 GHz.

The software is a separate line item

SoluM's labels are managed through AIMS, its label management system. SoluM describes AIMS as software built exclusively for its ESL systems, available from a data center or as an on-site server, and connectable to other systems through a REST API. On the WAND Digital listing, the AIMS label service runs $630 to $3,150 a year.

That's a reasonable model for a chain with an IT team. For a single coin shop, it means three things to buy and manage: tags, a gateway and a software subscription, often through a reseller.

The coin-store gap: live metal prices

This is the biggest difference for a precious-metals retailer. AIMS manages product data and prices you send it. SoluM's materials don't describe a built-in gold or silver price feed. To tie tags to the market, a coin shop would need its own price source plus an integration to push recalculated prices into AIMS.

PriceTaglet was built around that problem. Its live spot price feed covers gold, silver and platinum. Each tag is set up by metal, weight and karat, and the hub recalculates and pushes new prices when spot moves. The pricing formula, the market data and the tags live in one system.

Setup and support

SoluM systems are usually sold and installed through resellers and integrators. That's normal for enterprise retail and works well when you have an IT partner.

PriceTaglet is designed for the owner to set up. The pre-configured hub plugs into a standard outlet and joins store Wi-Fi from a phone or tablet. Items, formulas and markups are managed in a browser dashboard, with no app to install. PriceTaglet says most shops are set up in under 15 minutes.

One company for tags and software

With SoluM, the tags and AIMS come from SoluM, but you'll typically buy through a reseller and add your own integrations. With PriceTaglet, one company makes the tags and the software, and the spot feed is part of the product. You have one place to call when something needs fixing.

Which should you choose?

Choose SoluM if you run a large or multi-location store, need many tag sizes or color screens, have an IT partner, and already have systems to feed prices into AIMS.

Choose PriceTaglet if you run a coin shop, bullion dealer, jewelry store or pawn shop where prices follow the metals market, and you want tags, software and spot pricing working together out of the box.
